Cold Season Is Coming – Unclutter Your Garage

In case you are in the situation that you have to keep your car on the street due to the fact that it doesn’t fit in the garage anymore because of the clutter, it is a sure sign that you have to do something about it.

Remember that the majority of the people keep dangerous chemicals in their garage including paint and pesticides and you should learn about the proper ways to store these.

Un-clutter Your GarageIt is common for people to store them in old food cans, but these could leak and they could cause you respiratory problems. Always try to keep them in their original container.

These chemicals could be dangerous for your house pets as well, such as road salt, ice-melt mixtures and antifreeze.

In case they spill, you should wipe them off immediately and make sure that they are out of the reach of children too.

A lot of people choose to store their gas grills in the garage, along with the propane tank. In case the tank leaks you won’t observe it, but the gas will accumulate on the ground level and it is enough to have a spark to cause an explosion. This is why it should be stored at least 10 feet away from the house.

We also have to take care of the clutter caused by the old toys of children. These should be stored away from the chemical clutter, and they shouldn’t be on the ground either. On the other hand you don’t want to put them too high either, because while trying to reach for them, the children could hurt themselves. In case of smaller toys and balls you could be using storing bins.

Usually ladders are leaning against a wall, but although this is a normal way to store it, it could tip over and damage your car or hurt a loved one. This is why it is better to store it horizontally at floor level, or on hooks for added safety.

The gardening tools should be stored in a similar manner as well, on hooks, vertically. This way it is easy to reach them when they are needed, but they aren’t in your way when you don’t want them to be.

Although people refer to extension cords as items for outdoor use, they are usually used indoors. The floor of the garage might get some humidity, so you should find another place to store it.
