Porch Renovation – A Summer Sweet Challenge

One of the best things about having a family house is that you have the possibility to have a porch. There are many things to do with it and there is nothing better than to be sitting on the porch on a warm summer night.

One of the things that you have to start with is to determine whether it is big enough for you. In case it isn’t, you could enlarge it as a quick summer project. Nonetheless sometimes a small porch is enough as well to spend some quality time outdoors.

Porch RenovationAnother thing that you have to consider is whether it is open or closed. A closed porch is just as great because you can enjoy the fresh air without having to worry about bugs or any other unwanted visitors. The screened porches do need some maintenance because the screens may break, the wood could rot and the painting could chip.

If you would like to make sure that you can use the porch all year round, think about changing the panels for glass, and in this case you could use it during the winter as well.

The porches need repairs from time to time, especially in case it is an open one. After a time it might be more than just a visual problem; it could threaten your safety if it isn’t well maintained. If you would like to change the structure of the porch it is possible that you will need permits.

In case you would like to be able to use the porch for the most possible time, think about installing a heating fan. Their advantage is that they offer cooling during the summer, and heating during the cooler months of the year.

It is well-known that the heat rises, but the fan has been designed to push the heat down. In the majority of the cases the heating fan is located where the lighting rests.

When thinking about renewing the porch, the easiest way to do it is to add some new items. A good idea might be to install an awning or a roll down vinyl this way making sure that the porch will lose less heating during the cooler months.

Also think about applying a new paint job and in the end place a welcome mat to make the guests feel more welcome.

The porch is actually a part of your home, making it warmer.
