Installing a Ceiling Fan for the Hot Summer Days

A ceiling fan seems to be something simple, but on the hot summer days it might make all the difference to the climate of your home. There are some steps that you have to follow in order to install the ceiling fan on your own.

The first thing you have to do is to turn off the electricity and only then should you handle electric wires. Next you should find the right spot of the fan. If you would like it to hang from the middle of the ceiling, draw diagonal lines from the opposite corners of the room to find the center.

Installing a Ceiling FanThe first thing to install is the junction box. Make a hole big enough for the junction box to fit in and in case it is next to the joist, drill some holes on the side of it and screw it to the joist. When handling ceiling fans the only junction box that you should use is the metal one. Never use those made of plastic because they aren’t as resistant as the metal ones.

In case you have to work with beamed ceiling, you should rather use special beam mount. You will need one kind of beam mount for the horizontal beam and another kind for the pitched beam.

The next step is to assemble the fan. This process varies from one brand to the other. No matter what brand are your dealing with, start with assembling the hanger pipe. This should be placed on the hole on the top of the motor. In case the fan comes with a decorative ceiling cover, you should mount this next. The fan blades are the following things to be attached.

You will have to secure the blades with the help of screws, and although they should be tightly secured, they shouldn’t be too tight so that they won’t damage the blades.

The fan needs to be attached to the box. Install the hanger bracket. This is easily done with the help of screws and lock washers.

The wires come next in the row and then slip on the ceiling cover. Last but not least, you also have to think about electrically grounding the fan. Actually you will have to ground both the fan and the metal box.

In the end verify your work. In case the fan wobbles while it is working, it is very likely that the blades are out of balance.
